Acupuncture is the use of very fine needles to return the body to its natural state of balance. The Eastern philosophy believes that there are 12 meridians or channels that flow freely, one into the next over and through the body like the streams and rivers in nature. When these streams and rivers flow freely, it results in no pain, good energy, and clear state of mind. However, due to today’s rigorous schedules, taxing physical requests, lack of sleep, high levels of stress, poor diets etc. our body gets disrupted. The streams, no longer have the water to flow causing deficiency, or injury/obstruction blocks that flow and causes havoc or “pain “. So, after thousands of years of observation, the discovery was made that by stimulating certain parts of these channels, you are able to summon the waters (or Qi and blood as it is referred to in Traditional Chinese medicine) or unblock and disperse these channels (dissolving blood stagnation of damp stagnation).
The Western Philosophy:
Over thousands of years, this method has been practiced and observed and they are now finding that many of the acupuncture points are lining up with our central nervous system and are sending signals to the brain, triggering it to “refire“ where they may have been lying dormant, especially with the use of electric stimulation. Moreover, it is proven to stimulate blood flow to certain areas, thereby naturally triggering your body’s cascade response to pain, wherein the blood has what the body needs to heal itself.
We also incorporate Trigger point therapy, which is the “rebooting “of the individual muscle through a technique that pinpoints the junction within the muscle that causes it to “refire” where it may have been locked ,shut down or hypertonic (in state of spasm).

The Initial Intake is a 90 - 120 minute full intake. It involves a complete past medical history, review of prescriptions and any blood work or imaging that you may have, as well as a Acupuncture needling, conjunctive therapies as needed (Cupping, Gua Sha, Electric Stimulation, Moxibustion)
Does it hurt?
At On Point AWC we practice Traditional Chinese style Acupuncture. This means that there is no pain on insertion, but you will feel what is called “ De Qi”. This sensation has been described as “Poof” sensation or a release. Sometimes it feels achy or warming. This is the Qi being “summoned” or “unblocked”. It should not be painful, although it may be surprising and eventually relieving, because you know you are on the mend!!
